Description: There are several types of tetras, however, the neon tetra is usually a bright blue fading to a silver blue belly with a red stripe going down to their fin.
They make great beginner fish because they are so easy to care for and require little maintenence, however, they do have one nasty little secret. Neon Tetra Disease. Its a disease unique to this species that is 100% fatal which is why it is important to have a quarantine tank as a back up to prevent the spread of this quickly spread disease.
Breeding is often difficult in home aquariums which is why shoals of 5+ are recommended as they are a very social fish and will sometimes school with other community fish if they are alone. Tank mates can include others of the same species, and just about any friendly non-aggressive community fish that are middle to top dwelling.
